IELTS in Greece
International English Language Testing System or commonly known as IELTS is the most popular English language test in the world and is taken by over 2.2 million tests taken each year. IELTS help you to study. Live or even work anywhere around the world.
IELTS is widely accepted in Greece. Many leading Greek institutions of higher education, universities, and even private colleges, recognise IELTS scores as a trusted and valid indicator
of ability to communicate in English.
IELTS is also recognised by the Council of Europe. Common European Framework of Reference known as CEFR provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, which facilitates occupational and educational mobility.

Information for IELTS Candidates
- IELTS is not recommended for applicants under the age of 16.

Check the IELTS test dates
IELTS is conducted in Thessaloniki and Athens twice a month throughout the year and also in, Ioannina, Patra, Heraklion Crete, Xanthi and Volos on specified dates, and which are announced at the beginning of each year.
As there is limited number of places for all sessions, it is recommended that one should register five weeks before the chosen test date. The Reading, Writing and Listening tests take place on the same day. However the speaking tests are scheduled to take place a week before the written examinations. For those candidates who are from towns in the provinces, even the speaking test is held on the same day as the written examinations.
- STEP 1 - Online Registration System
You can book your place through online registration. One can upload an electronic copy of their identification document to the Online Registration System. It should be ensured that every applicant should have an electronic copy of the identification document (National ID for EU citizens or Passport for Non-EU citizens) which you plan to use when registering online. Please note you have to provide the same document on the day of the examination.
If you have done online registration, but have not uploaded an electronic copy of the identification document to the Online Registration System, you will have to send a copy of the document within three days of registering.
- STEP 2: IELTS Test Fee
The IELTS test fee is €190 and it should be made in either of the two ways given below:
- online with your Master or Visacard debit/credit card. The online payment can be made at the same time when you book your place by using the Online Registration System.
- The other way of paying IELTS fess is by direct deposit to the British Council account at any Alpha Bank branch after you book your place through the Online Registration System. You can pay the test fee via web banking or ATM through you own bank.
- STEP 3: Confirmation of Registration
After the registration and the fees payment, you will receive an email which will confirm the registration within five working days of registering. If by any chance the identification document is rejected, then you will receive an email with more instructions on how to upload the identification document again.
P.S. Any incomplete applications will not be processed and will automatically get rejected.
The IELTS score are directly sent to educational institutions and universities, but for that one has to enter the relevant addresses in the appropriate fields on the Online Registration System.
The IELTS results are uploaded online 13 days after the date of the written test. One cannot obtain their results over the email, fax or by phone.
