Scholarship Programmes for Students in Greece

Students determined to pursue their study in Greece, are rewarded by a wide range of scholarships that are available for studies. Some of the privately funded, university funded and federally funded award are mentioned below:

Government Scholarships

Two scholarships from federal government are to fund travels for the students to various countries, and that includes Greece. It demands certain eligibility criteria, but one can enjoy good rewards provided it fits into the requirements.

  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships
    This is for the undergrads who deserved to study abroad but due to the lack of funds are not able to pursue the programs. All the applicants should be the recipient of Pell Grant and should necessarily come into the low-income group facing extreme financial challenges to pursue higher education. The scholarship gives award up to $7,000.

Private Scholarships

Archaeological Institute of America

The following scholarships and fellowships are sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) to pursue advocation, excavation and projects related to education for student scholars seeking funding:
  • Anna C. and Oliver C. Colburn Scholarships
    This is for the most talented and eligible students who are wishing to pursue Ph.D. studies at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. The qualified candidates get a generous amount of $11,000 for a one year-long program.

  • The Olivia James Traveling Fellowship
    It is one of the best scholarships of $22,000 but to just the deserving student.  The scholarship demands its applicants to pursue fieldwork in Greece or somewhere in the surrounding.

  • Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowships
    This scholarships are for post-graduate or graduate students of archaeology whose Bronze Age is the main concentration and within Greece. The students applying for the scholarship must have a proper project. The award consists of $4,000.

Rotary International

It has gradually become the largest organization for philanthropic worldwide. The Rotary is known for funding scholarships in Greece in large scale.

  • The Ambassadorial Scholarships
    This scholarship comes in different version and is according to the student’s intention and needs. It gives a generous amount of $26,000 to the most eligible student for study for a complete year in an eligible country, which also includes Greece. It’s a must for the applicant to be excellent in every sphere and also embody the moral tenets and character of the Rotary.

    The Global Grants are also offered to students to improve themselves in the field of education, sustainable development medicine in a country which is in need of it. The award includes a generous amount of $30,000.

Alexander S. Onassis Foundation

The name Onassis is historically associated with both Jackie Kennedy and wealth. The Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, provides scholarship for Ph. D. and graduates who has a wish to pursue research work or pursue study in Greece.

The eligibility criteria for applicants include that he/she may be studying a flexible range of disciplines. Awards to the candidates may vary depending upon the project that the student is pursuing and also the length of the proposed research or study.

Hellenic International Studies in the Arts

This scholarship is for those who loves art history, visual arts, creative writing, media, photography, women’s studies, music, film and literature. The applicant will be eligible to receive scholarships to pursue their study further in Greece. Taking enrollment numbers which is usually small and are just limited to about 25 students. The Tuition scholarships are available, Jason Schindler scholarship for those writers who are just exceptional are given $1000-$2500 and $1000 in the HISA Photography Fellowship, are some other awards that are given.
